Unjinxed

Hello friends!

January 12, 2013

Wow, long time, no see. Remember my last post - when I was telling you things were definitely looking up for us? Well, that totally jinxed it. That very night, my baby got sick with a very bad stomach bug. I caught her bug and got sick 10 times more. Breastfeeding + depleting yourself of all your fluids for 3 days + ongoing renal insufficiency due to previous illness = not a good match. At all.

Worst of all, though, this was the first in a series of various health issues for my daughter (whom I've decided to henceforward refer to on this blog as Madame Choupie). After months of being constantly sick for a variety of reasons, and of sleeping really, really badly (I have spent so many sleepless nights over the past 5 months), I think I can safely say that she is all much better now. And I'm crossing all my fingers and toes for this post not to jinx it again.
In retrospect, and after many tests were done (some of them quite horrid when performed on a clueless little girl, I'm sorry to say), Madame Choupie had, thankfully, nothing serious - an iron deficiency, which is all being taken care of with great results; and a bad case of reflux, which after a few months is much, much better.

I really do believe we are out of the woods now, and have started on the process of teaching her to fall back to sleep on her own - she still needs me (or at least thinks she does!) 3 to 5 times a night - 3 being on very, very good nights. As in, we had 2 such nights over the past month and we felt so energetic it was as if we'd been on acid! if I' I have been working full time since September and to say we've been feeling like zombies for months now is no exaggeration.

January 30, 2013

Tomorrow is Madame's Choupie's first birthday, if you can believe it. I am determined to get back to blogging and podcasting as this new year starts in her - and our - personal calendar.

I have been crafting, believe it or not. I even managed to make Madame Choupie a birthday dress, and to make myself a matching skirt. I am hoping for a photo session tomorrow.

As for P'tite Mignonne - she turned 10 a couple of weeks! She is her usual serene, happy, cuddly self.
January 11, 2013
She and Madame Choupie are best friends. Seb and I reflect daily that ours is a home where love abounds.

Above all, and despite this rocky first year - what with my being seriously ill for the first half of it, and Madame Choupie having all these (eventually minor but oh so bothering) troubles for the second - I have tremendously enjoyed watching my baby grow and do something amazing every single day. I feel so fortunate to be her mother. I am so excited to see all the wonderful things my little one will be discovering, learning, doing, in the year to come.

What a little stunner! She sounds lively. Your nights sound exactly like mine almost 30 years ago to the day! Bizarrely I went on to have 3 more, slightly less insomniac babies! Good luck as so nice to find your blog popping up in my reader.

Isabelle - I'm so happy that not only are you feeling better but that Madame Choupie is too! The wonderful thing about motherhood is that you will have sooooo many more wonderful memories to replace some of these stressful ones from this first year. Madame Choupie is such a beautiful little girl and I'm sure that year two will be even more miraculous!

Isabelle, it is great to see you posting and that things are OK. It sounds like you have had an incredibly stressful year - thank goodness your baby is healthy and you seem to be on the mend, too. My thoughts with you and Happy Birthday to your wonderful daughter!

Oh my goodness she is beautiful! But I am not surprised you are feeling a little like a zombie when you combine full time working, being a mum and broken sleep! It is such a vicious cycle when you are ill, but don't get enough sleep to help you recover and so it is harder to get well. I hope everything will move in the right direction for you all now.
Happy birthday to your little one and best wishes to you for continuing good health!

Lovely to see you back here, Isabelle! And your Madame Choupie is GORGEOUS... 1 year already! I know there'll be much celebrating there. My sister's daughter had a bad case of reflux... it was a tough time for them. But it does get better. :o) Sweet to see P'tite Mignonne. Our Charlie just turned 13... he's an old boy now. Happy new year to all of you--may 2013 treat you all with wellness and happiness! ((HUGS))

A very happy birthday, "bon anniversaire," to the beautiful and lovely Madame Choupie. She is truly a beautiful child. You must be so proud. What a joy to come home to after a day of work. :)

I am so glad to see you and your little angel! Those first months can be such a struggle, can't they? Mine were all night-wakers who seriously believed they needed a little extra breastmilk to keep going! They all sleep beautifully now. Please believe me; this too shall pass.

Hello back, Isabelle and Happy Birthday to darling Madame Choupie! Reflux is very difficult and I'm sorry you've had to go through learning how to live with it. You know? I don't really know how you've survived the health problems and lack of sleep and work, on top of it. You must have an angel watching over your family. Thanks for the pictures

Also, I had pretty bad reflux when I was a baby and turned out mostly fine. :p

Late to the party - but it was so nice to look at my "friends" list and see that you are back! Your little girl is just beautiful and so glad to hear that she is so much better - trying times - those baby years and they really do fly by - I have two daughters who are 28 and 30 and it seems like just yesterday they were little peas like your wee one!
