What - she's moving again?

Well, friends, yes I am. This time should be for good though. Hopefully. ;)

You see, the past few months have not been all bad, since I got a job [edited for privacy].

Since I got the news, I have been quite busy preparing next year's curriculum and brochure, and finding a flat in my future home town.
I am obviously a bit apprehensive at the thought that my whole family (with whom I am very close) will be 800 to 1200 kilometers up north; yet on the other hand, this is a great opportunity for a clean start; and the post is really everything I dreamed of.

In case some of you have managed to follow my rather hectic movements over the past 7 months (in which case you deserve a special ribbon), this is the third time I'm moving since January (Paris -> London, London -> Paris, now Paris -> South); hopefully this time should be the charm.

I moved out of my Paris flat last week. I just spent a week relaxing and reorganising my boxes at my parents' country house (reduce, reduce, reduce, for a change); and the four of us (my parents, P'tite Mignonne and me) are leaving for my future home very early tomorrow morning.
My stuff is all packed in my Dad's minivan. It is going to be a long drive. Montpellier is exactly 1000 kms South (= 620 miles) from my parents' home.

My biggest anxiety concerns Ms Cutie. Granted, we've travelled regularly together - and she's a wonderful traveller; but the longest she's ever been on a journey was when we travelled by train from Paris to Amsterdam last year - about 5-6 hours. This is going to be twice as long. Thank goodness she is so calm and sweet - basically, as long as I stay within her sight, she doesn't fret too much.

I just hope she manages to drink during the drive. I got her a harness so I can get her out of the car when we take breaks on the motorway, and we both learned how to use it this week ;)

I probably won't be having the Internet for a while, and my parents are staying with me for a week down South so we can enjoy a few more days together. :)

Anyway - I'll see you all whenever I get back online! and I promise to finally photograph and share with you those latest projects of mine - I have been sewing a little, I swear ;)

Hoping this finds you all enjoying a nice summer - or winter, for those of you on the other side of the Equator ;)

Congratulations on your new job! That sounds wonderful. I'm fairly new to your blog, so I may have missed what field you're in? Seems to me Ms. Cutie has it all under control, so you can focus on the moving and settling part. She'll certainly help with that!

Congratulations on your appointment. I hope your move and the new job go well.

I have traveled across the USA with my cats. If you have time to get a cat carrier it will make things easier on the long trip.

I love Paris so and always feel good thinking about you enjoying the sights, sounds and tastes there. I hope you love Montpellier and Nîmes as well.

What wonderful news! I wish you the very best of luck with your new post. How exciting!
I do hope Ms P'tite Mignonne approves of her new home, too!

I'm so looking forward to hearing about your new life!

Celeste said...

Dear Isabelle, we have been worried about you. I am so glad you have found a permanent post; such things are quite rare in academia these days. What is your field? I hope your new home has lots of room for a sewing room. Just a hint; cats that are in cat shows are frequently dehydrated, and their owners give them water via an eye dropper, about twice an hour. It may work with your gorgeous Petit.

Congratulations on your new job, I hope that the move goes as smoothly as possible and that you and Miss Cutie get settled in quickly.

I think Miss Cutie will do well traveling. I traveled with Alix up until December 2008, when she was very old. I even set up a "littler tray" on the back floor of the car and she actually used it very neatly. The distance you describe is nearly the same as the journey we make to my parents house every year at Christmas (612miles for us!). It is far from your family ...I am close with my parents too...but enough distance to allow you your own life and a fresh start. This is a good attitude to have. I know I could not be a gymnastics coach in the area where my parents live. I would have more likely pursued a career that was more "acceptable" to their standards.
Good luck in your new life and look forward to see you back on-line soon!

Oh that is splendid news! Congratulations Isabelle. Have a safe trip to your new home.

How lovely that you have found the perfect job! Congratulations. I hope the move goes smoothly. Does this mean we'll have to meet up in Nice and be fabulous on the beach together? `-)

Hope things with the move are going well for you. It's been awhile since we've visited. I'm having fun going back through my old blog posts, and contacted folks I've lost track of. Sorta spring cleaning at the same, once I make contact; then I delete the post. Thought that would be a way to trim my blog a bit before it gets too full.

Do hope you'll swing back by for a visit.

Felicitations! Montpellier has a wonderful medieval restaurant -- literally! It in a cave and has been there since medieval times. I don't remember the address but perhaps you'll stumble across it.

Good luck with the new job! I love the clothes you make so I can't wait until you post more sewing!

Bonne Chance! I can't wait to hear about Montpelier and Nimes--and the chances to score sewing fabrics and supplies nearby!

I hope your kitty had an uneventful trip--and that you are settling in to your new home and the beginning of a fabulous career!

Very best wishes to you!

Isabelle congratulations on your position and good luck with your move. My sister in law lived in Montpellier for 20 years before moving to Sussargues a few years ago. Best of everything to you and your precious Ms. Cutie.

Felicitations! Good success with your new venture. I hope you find what you are looking for in your life. A word of advice from one who moved around a lot: don't go home when you first move. Wait at least 6 months. You need to get used to calling the new city 'home' before heading back to family for visits. Otherwise, you will always be caught between two world and never really settle any where. Hugs!

Enjoy your new start in the south. I still manage to keep up with all your moves, but maybe that because in 30 years I moved 20 times.

Congratulations! New jobs are exciting.

Biscuit refuses to set foot inside her cat carrier. She instead rides around in the car just like a dog - sometimes she curls up on the floor, sometimes, she looks out of the window (always rolled up, I'm convinced she's stupid enough to try to jump out.) It always stresses my parents out no end when they are driving, since she also wants to go exploring the front, and my mom is convinced she's going to jump on the steering wheel, or some such thing.

Congratulations, Isabelle! What a wonderful opportunity for you - and Miss Cutie - to get a fresh start. THe job sounds wonderful, and I'm sure that you and Cutie will settle right into your new hope. Lovely that your family will be there for a week to help you get settled. I'm sure Miss Cutie will be fine on the journey, she sounds like a good traveler (if you can get her into a harness, she's a VERY good girl, just ask my cats). You could always get a baby-sized eyedropper and feed her a little water if she gets stressed, I've done that with my cats.

Again, congratulations, so good to see you back with great news.

By now, you should be in Montpelier. I hope the transition is going well, and Miss Cutie is adjusting well :)

Congratulations on your new job! Is sort of envious that you will be living in South of France - which I love! Just drove 1600 km to get there and then 1600 km back after spending a week near Avignon..
Have a save trip!

Bonjour Isabelle,

A bientôt
