A silly little post...

Because I felt like it. ;) I'm afraid this is a very self-centred little post.
I hope this finds you all well, enjoying spring OR the beautiful fall leaves... :)

I finished my seventh chapter yesterday night (or wait, was it this morning, very early?) and started on the eighth this morning (I do have about a quarter of the eighth written out from last week).
I am dreaming to take a couple of hours this weekend to make Simplicity 3744, view A.

In a crisp navy cotton, embroidered with white squiggles.
BUT - I am to talk in a symposium next Friday and haven't prepared a word of it yet... so I'm not quite sure if this is going to work out. On the other hand, I worked my heart out this week, had a real bad week in some respects, and I miss sewing to the point I want to cry.

** Friends, please be understanding if I am not able to reply to emails right now. Please do. I don't sleep half enough as it is. I just can't achieve more in a day than I am currently doing. It doesn't mean I'm not thinking of you! :) **

The meme of books, I got tagged by dear Laura (congrats again, ma belle!).
I am supposed to pick up the nearest book, turn to page 123, find the fifth sentence and post the next three sentences.

I had to twist the rules a bit, because all the books nearest to me would
  1. sound probably very strange and boring to many of you
  2. be sure to have my blog crop up in very specific scholarly searches, which I don't want.
Here is one of the latest non-work-related books that I read, and which I thoroughly enjoyed: White Teeth, by Zadie Smith:
"Samad wasn't listening. It was imperative that he be at school before nine if this trip were going to have any purpose whatsoever. By nine, she'd be in class."

I am not tagging anyone, but feel free to join in the silliness. :)

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes :) (I turned 27 on May 4.) I received a box from dear Doris, but Seb doesn't want me to open it yet, because he didn't get to celebrate my birthday yet - it sort of snuck up on him this year. He wants to be the first to give me gifts or something. LOL. I'm sorry Doris, I hope you understand... I didn't want to bicker about this as Seb and I are so seldom together this year. I do hope you got my email. (désolée Doris, j'espère que tu comprends, je n'ai pas eu envie d'argumenter alors que nous passons si peu de temps ensemble. J'espère que tu as eu mon mail ! Gros bisous.)

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Isabelle, you are such a sweetheart! Working so hard on your academics yet concerned about responding to us. You are such a dear person.

I hope you find time to make your dress. It's a cute design and so appropriate for the warm weather months. I think I have this pattern too, thanks for reminding me of it.

Happy birthday, and may you continue to make good progress.

It sounds to me like you need to take the time to sew this dress - it's a 'mental health moment' to keep everything in perspective. And as far as emailing and commenting on blogs, you know none of us expect that - we're all aware of how incredibly much you have to do and what pressure is on you to meet deadlines. You take care of yourself!!!

Don't worry about emails and comments. We are all here for you. Though I would not have minded some scholarly quotations. I am currently reading a very dense commentary on The Inklings (Tolkein, C. S. Lewis, etc.). How much worse could whatever you are working on be? ;-)

Isabelle, I hope you find time to make your dress and also catch up on your sleep. Happy belated birthday!

No worries Isabelle - we all do understand! Take good care of yourself, we all want that :-)

Happy "late" birthday. You are working away so busily, you will be finished in no time...

Thankyou for your hugs and good vibes. They really have made a difference :))

I hope that you are able to get some more sleep, dear Isabelle. It concerns me to hear that you are having problems again. Take you time with email and other less important tasks. Everyone understands and we'll be here when you have a chance. :) BTW, great progress on your thesis!
