Making (very) slow progress on the Burda trenchcoat

Just so you know I'm not dead yet...

Burda Feb. 08 #117 - in desperate and floppy progress
I haven't read blogs in ages, and you must think me a horribly unfaithful blogging friend. It's just been bad news piled onto one another lately. And work, work, work.

Just so you understand why I've been so insanely busy... I am hoping to get my PhD thesis completed by the beginning of summer. A thesis in literature here is 400-500 pages long. I am on to my seventh (out of nine) chapters. I am thoroughly enjoying it, but this does not leave me much time for sewing! Or friends...

I hope this finds you all happy. Can't even start to imagine all the beauties you've been creating!
Friends, I miss you. I hope you'll still want to talk to me when summer comes!

I know that writing a thesis can consume your entire life, so be sure to take care of yourself. Just think, soon you'll be done it and on to another exciting chapter in your life!

Your trenchcoat is looking fabulous Isabelle! Don't worry, just concentrate on getting your thesis done - it'll be over before you know it! {{{Hugs}}}

Your trench will be still be stunning *whenever* it is completed. Your thesis will eventually be done and will be put behind you soon enough - 7 of 9 chapters is excellent progress! I'll still be here this summer and looking forward to hearing from you again.

Vicki said...

Hi Isabelle! Don't worry, keep doing what you are doing and we will hear from you when you have time. BTW, the trench is looking good!

The trench is looking wonderful, and I think 7 out of 9 chapters is wonderful progress. Sew when you can, work when you have to, and most of all, take care of yourself and your kitty. We'll all be here when you look up from your work.

Isabelle, your trench is looking great. I love the color.

Your PhD thesis is how many pages? Good grief! And I complain about the research I have to do for my nursing Master's. Boy, does that put things in perspective for me :-)

You take care of yourself, Isabelle. Missing you, hoping for all the best for you.

Your trench coat is looking fabulous! I love the colour you have chosen for it.
Thinking of you as you get closer to the end of your thesis - I'm so glad to hear you are enjoying the process and it is not a chore. ((hugs))

Ah, a "trenchcoat" indeed! This is much too lovely to have such a name. It is a work of art. I am always amazed when I visit your blog, how you can make the simplest of designs come to life with your superb color choices. I really love the brown print blouse from the previous post also.

Your trench is looking fantastic, what a fun color. It will be one of those pieces that just makes you smile when you put it on.

Sorry things are so hectic for you at the moment, and that you are getting bad news on top of it. One or the other is hard enough, but combined it really makes life difficult. Take care of yourself and don't worry about us. We'll be here when you have more time, and of course we'll still be talking with you. {{hugs}}

Isabelle, your trench looks divine and cannot wait until it is completely finished. I love the color. Hope things will settle down for you before too long and the bad stuff will pass. We will be here for you when you are ready. In the meantime, good luck on your thesis and I hope you are able to get your doctorate in the allotted time.

Hi! This is my first comment on the English version (I left you one in French on the French blog, ages ago, just before you got married, on the subject of maiden names/surname after marriage!). Anyway, I am amazed to see your sewing work: it is fantastic. And the trench coat is once again a fantastic piece of creation!
However, you have sparked my curiosity: what is the subject of your thesis? ;-)
Wishing you lots of courage for the last couple of chapters! ;-)
Take care

I know how you must feel... I'm burried under papers and deadlines as well and Bucharest is a total mess because of the NATO summit starting the day after tomorrow.
Your trench looks amazing already, I love the colour and the wrinkled fabric. The topstitching on the cuffs is beautiful.

Tracy said...

Not to worry, dear friend...we'll all be here for you...come rain or come shine, that's what friends do! :o) So glad your thesis is proving enjoyable work despite it's looong work. I'm amazed you have time at all for sewing. The trench coat is a dream--love that fabric & its color and the deep, decorative cuffs! Be well, be happy, Isabelle! ((HUGS))

Emily said...

Isabelle, it's looking just gorgeous! I just love that color -- one of my favorites. When I was an undergraduate, my thesis was 150 pages long, and I thought THAT was so much work! Best of luck on finishing the thesis soon. I'm sure you'll be so glad when it's finally done. :)

I'm not envious of you right now, well, except for that incredible trench coat!

Don't worry about us! We know you'll be back... :)

Good luck on your thesis Isabelle. What a feeling of accomplishment it will be when you have completed it.

Hope you have better news very soon and in the meantime take care.

What a beautiful color for a trench! It will be finished when you decide you have time or need a distraction while you let things simmer in your mind. I remember the joy I felt when I finished my thesis...I felt joy and pain while writing it because it can be so consuming. Once it is finished, you will have plenty of time for all of the other things you enjoy!

It sounds like you are quite, quite busy, dear friend! I didn't realize that you were trying to finish your thesis so soon. No wonder you've been working on it so much. If you need to talk about the bad things that have been piling up, I'm always here for you. Feel free to drop me an email. I hope that good things are headed your way and that you are able to fly through the remainder of your thesis. We'll be here waiting when you're ready. *hugs*

Lovely coat...and need I add that making a fabulous coat while writing a PhD dissertation is more than almost AMY person would expect of themselves? Fantastic. No apologies for how long it is taking... rather, congratulate yourself that you are steadily making progress (no matter the pace) on BOTH!

Sharon said...

Oh, that coat is to die for! So pretty! You know we will be patiently waiting until you get finished! Good luck with your thesis!

Isabelle, we love what you do whenever you catch the time to share it with us. Beautiful work! And I'm awed by the size of your thesis.

Just in case you don't see it, you've been given a 'Blog Excellence' award...not just for great and beautiful sewing, but for keeping at it even just a little when you've got so much on your plate. Truly inspirational!

My dear friend, you have been in my thoughts during my short vacations in the mountains! I spent some relaxing time knitting your mittens while I was watching Miguel doing snowboard! Many hugs from a very Summery like Portugal!
