Thump

That was me, falling on the slippery floor of a metro station, while rushing to work on Thursday morning (I'm always rushing... Always so much to do!). I was carrying my laptop and a bunch of books on my back, which did not help.
Laptop is fine. My foot is not. The bruises I can deal with, no problem. A sprained foot I've now realized is something else. I stupidly persisted in teaching until 7 pm, because I didn't see how I could otherwise finish the curriculum in time for my students' exams in 3 weeks. I do teach standing up, as otherwise the students probably wouldn't see me... and I need the blackboard all the time.
Then I hobbled home, one tiny step at a time.
I went to the hospital on Friday morning, where they diagnosed a sprained tarsus and put me on strict rest until at least next Wednesday. I'm not supposed to walk at all, or the ligaments may not heal correctly. Considering I walk at least 2 kms a day, and that I *love* walking, that would be a problem indeed.

Great - that means time to sew, I hear you say? Well, no. I need to kneel on the floor to cut out a pattern or fabric, which is a big no-no for my foot. Besides, the ironing board is in the bedroom, which means I usually keep going from one room to the other when I'm sewing.
I had planned to finish the lined Simplicity 3631 jacket this weekend, and couldn't wait (I haven't been able to work on it for 3 weeks). well, it'll just have to wait!
At least I can still work from home, as long as it's not teaching. Can't wait for the end of the semester!

I do have a few things to show you, though, that I made earlier for the shop.
This is a reversible pleated purse in toile de Jouy:

I love the fact that you can take it inside out and have a completely different look. In fact, I like this one so much I was very tempted to keep it for myself... BUT if I want to be able to buy some new fabrics... I have to sell some of my items first! Finances are tight this year, what with us paying two rents now. Since last summer, I have not allowed myself to buy fabric unless I could pay it with my funds from the shop.

There are also a few new baby shirts... Including a very girly tunic

Both are also for sale in euros, on DaWanda.
I am also thinking about embroidering a few tops in ladies' sizes... soon, hopefully!

Thank you for all your comments regarding the pyjamas last week! Wow, I never dreamed pyjamas would inspire such a response. Thank you!!
Wishing you all a great weeekend.

Isabelle - I know that it is hard to take it easy when you want to sew but believe me you will regret it if you don't! You will have plenty of time to finish your jacket later...rest...we will all still be here anxiously awaiting your finished jacket!

I hope your foot heals quickly!

Oh Isabelle! I know the feeling of being rushed and now you definitely have to take a break. I've sprained ankles before, and please do rest and let it heal in it's own time. I sprained mine carrying large boxes of Christmas decorations down from our garage loft and missed the last stair step. I started working out 2 weeks after the accident and that was a big mistake! I then had a longer healing time.

Oh no!!! Take it easy girl!

I sprained my foot last year, falling from my bike, and I only wish my doctor had taken it seriously. Please do stay off yours, as it is NOT fun to spend 6 months or more recovering. :(

Sending lots of get-well vibes your way!!!

Oh no!!I hope you are back to normal as soon as possible. I know how bad it is not to be able to walk about. I have had a bit of a sore foot (not sure why - no fall for me) and yesterday I was up seeing mum and decided to walk into town as it was such a lovely day. Well my foot did not like it and of course once you have walked into town, you have to walk back:( It is feeling ok today but I had better get it checked before I do too much more walking. Hope you are back running (and sewing) soon.

Love the back but the kitty dress even more - soo cute!

Oh Isabelle, that's awful for you. Like others said: take good care of yourself and make sure you rest your foot enough. Don't start walking too soon!

Yikes, Isabelle! I hope your foot heals quickly. I know it will be hard for you to 'enjoy' the rest, but perhaps this was a warning sign. Thinking of you!

Do stay off your foot and heal quickly, Isabelle!! Maybe this is a good time to pick up your handwork again. :) Healing hugs! :D

Isabelle - wishing you a speedy recovery from your sprain. Love the bags. Aren't they a joy to sew. I am struggling with a BWOF jacket at the moment, so as a deplacement activity I have started making bags too, great fun!

Ouch Isabelle! I hope you get better soon - that sounds painful. You do need to rest though or it'll just take even longer to heal. I'm sure P'tite Mignonnone will be happy to have you sitting still for a long time :)

Hello my dear Isabelle !
I'm really sorry for your feet, I hope it's not to painful ! Now you've got a lot of time to read, at least ...
The little rose shirt is simply "adroable". If one of my three "next" nephew is a girl (oh yes, Rémi's sister is also pregnant), I will come and do a lot of shopping in "French Touch" !
Big kisses and take care of you !

Oh, Isabelle! So sorry you're hurting! Be careful and do take it easy...rest can be a good thing! ;o) But I know what you mean--I have to use the floor for cutting fabric and patterns, and I love walking, so I sympathize with your dilemmas. Thinking of you and sending lots of get well ((HUGS)) Oh, I love all your new shop items--that bag is fab! :o)

Claire said...

Take care of that ankle! Let Miss Kitty be your lap warmer while you stitch or read or whatever. I sprained my ankle falling down stairs years ago and now I have permanent damage from it - since I didn't take care of it properly. Eeeks. Do rest!

Tini said...

oouuuchh! Take care of yourself! Mabye you can do a little stitching instead (or I'll send you some knitting stuff) of sewing to keep you busy. Take time for your recovery!

Oh Isabelle, that is awful to be injured at such a busy time in the year. Please stay off of your feet as much as humanly possible so you can heal. My doctor says that a sprain is almost as bad as a break in the bone. Spend this time concentrating on your hand embroidery until your foot has healed. Your shop items are lovely.
Sending (((Hugs))) your way.

So sorry to hear you have injured your foot Isabelle. I'm sure it must be painful and hope things improve very soon.

Repose toi bien
Plein de bisous

Oh dear oh dear a sprained ankle is not a nice thing to happen. You take care and listen to doctors orders. I did the same thing like you and then did not rest .I have regretted it because I damaged the ligaments and till today my feet are not the same. I cannot wear certain type of shoes or run or even do a fast walk. I suffered with it for nearly 4 years. But you are young so you take care and it will heal quickly.
Love all the lovely sewing projects. I am sure they will do well.

poor you!
though it's hard TAKE THE TIME until the foot is completely healed - you won't do anything good by hurrying.

hope you will get well soon!

I am sorry about your foot. I have done that to much and now it doesn't hurt that much anymore. Only everyone is shocked around me.

*Ouch* That hurts... (I*ve a good experience with sprained somethings, I'm somehow to stupid to walk...)

And get better soon!

I understand well how annoying it is, when one finally has the time to do something, but cannot do it for other reasons... but there's nothing to do about..... so just relax!
