"Come on, Button!" - fabric-covered buttons video tutorial
Bonjour, tout le monde !
I am making fabric-covered buttons for my Simplicity 3631 jacket and thought I'd share how to do it. I love fabric-covered buttons, but when I started sewing this used to intimidate me... until I tried making some, and realized how fun and easy they were.
This is for those of you who haven't tried them yet... just to show you how easy this is!
This is also lovely to finish embroidery projects... so it may also be useful for the stitchers among who haven't used this technique yet :)
I did this with the webcam I got to chat with Seb, and the sound isn't too great... Hope it's still audible for you! :)
Also, the video is inverted (as in a mirror) so you can't actually see what's written on the kit... Sorry! I didn't know how to fix this. I need to look into this.
Shownotes:
I made these buttons to close sleeve belts for my Simplicity 3631 coat, which should soon be finished :)
The sleeve belt idea was suggested in the Fall 2007 issue of the SewStylish magazine.
The beautiful Hardanger scissors were painted and given to me by dear Jenna. :)
Hope you enjoy this! Have a great weekend!

It is so good to hear your voice!!!!!!!! :-)
Bonjour Isabelle, j'ai déjà recouvert des boutons mais j'ai regardé ta vidéo avec plaisir ,bien contente de connaitre le son de ta voix .... passes un bon dimanche . Bisous
What a fun and informative video! I actually just bought some buttons like this for the first time, now I know how to make them. Thank you, Isabelle!
Thanks for the wonderful tutorial! The sound was perfect too.
Ok. You have the most adorable accent I have ever heard. Like a beautiful mix of French and British. Sooooo cute! And thanks for the video. I've never made covered buttons and have been a little leery of them.
I have made these before but I had to watch the video to hear your voice. Like Cidell said - a nice mix of English and French accents. More English but some words are so French. It was wonderful to hear you. Thankyou for taking the time for the tutorial ;))))
I'm going to wait till tomorrow to watch the video because Niek's watching TV right now. Must admit to being very curious to hear your voice!
Dear Isabelle, I am really sorry that your foot has still not healed. It must be very frustrating not being able to do much about it. But take care and rest. Sometimes these injuries can take a bit of time to heal so don't rush it.
I too love those buttons and they are so easy to make isn't it. Your tutorial is very clear and I am sure for those who didn't know how to do it have gone away learning something new that they can use with their sewing
It says its not available anymore. Ill check back later. :)
What a great tutorial! It was so fun to hear you too - your English accent is perfect! (I think you speak better than me! ha ha!)
So fun to hear your voice, Isabelle! Evie enjoyed watching with me. And don't worry, we use spools/bobbins interchangeably here!
That's great to hear you in english even though I didn't understand everything ;)
I enjoyed watching your tutorial and it really looks easy to do!
Have a lovely week my dear friend.
Gros bisous
Its back up- and your tutorial is great! You do have a lovely voice Izzy. Great JOB!
it was soooo cool to hear your voice Isabelle!!!!!
Loved hearing your voice. I, too, thought it was a sweet mix of French and British. Your spoken English is so good I can hardly believe it's not your mother tongue. If I ever need a lesson on covering buttons, I know where to turn. Thanks, and I hope your foot is feeling a little better.
Oh, Isabelle, what a treat to hear your voice! I really would have guessed you to be English based solely on your accent. One of my friends here in Kennewick is from France, and her accent is very French.
I've made lots of these buttons, especially when making bridesmaids dresses for my daughter's wedding!
Isabelle .- Thanks to teach this technique. Not aware of the existence of these packs for cover buttons. I so far towards the commissioning a haberdashery specializes in these techniques. We are impatient to see your jacket. Thanks and greetings from Barcelona. Paco.
What joy to hear your voice, Isabelle! Your English is beautiful! And this was a really good tutorial--very well done! I wish I'd had this years ago when I did my first covered button. I didn't have a kit, just took apart an old fabric covered button and had a go--too three tries to get it right but it worked out--LOL! I have since found button kits, and they covering make buttons easier! I see you have another scarf in your shop--love it. And congrats on the sale! Happy week ((HUGS))
Oh, Isabelle, what an outstanding video tutorial you just did and most of all, what a treat to be able to listen to your lovely voice again!!! We have a Portuguese word for the feeling of missing someone a lot and that word is "saudade"! This video brought back the wonderful memories of the two of us together in Paris, chatting like crazy and it made me feel "saudades"! THANK YOU!
Lily just watched your tutorial with me. You are a wonderful teacher! Your students must adore you.
You have a posh BBC accent! It was so unexpected, though I suppose it stands to reason. If I were learning English, that's the accent I would want. Sadly, I have a flat, nasal Midwestern accent.
Hi Isabelle, like so many other already said: it's nice to hear your voice. Great video tutorial.
Hope your foot is healing well.
Best wishes.
Hello Isabelle, like others I've made these buttons before, but watched to hear you :) Very nice mix of French/English accent. I was expecting a totally French accent :) Your tutorial was very clear and precise.
Now I really can't wait to see your version of this jacket!
I loved the video simply cause i managed to hear you :) so now i know your face and matched the voice to it hihihi....great tutoriel and pretty nice accent you have there...
bisous bisous
I bookmarked this entry! I don't need fabric buttons now but your tutorial has me thinking about them.

Merci! Merci, Isabelle! I love your tutorial, you are a wonderful instructor. I have bought these button kits a while ago but have yet to try them. Now I am very excited to give it a go.
The video tutorial is fantastic, Isabelle! What a wonderful idea and so thoughtful of you to do this for us. :)
I was sorry to hear about your foot. :( I hope you're feeling better. At least it didn't happen in the summer, mind you - it would have felt even worse to be stuck indoors if the weather was sunny outside. :)
I hope your foot heals soon.
That video on covered buttons looks like a good lesson. I haven't had a need for covered buttons, but I will sure remember where to go and learn how to do them, if the need arises.
Thank you for your support in my situation with my daughter. I am feeling anger one minute and sadness the next. And of course I worry, worry, worry. What's a mom to do? I just wanted to let you know that all words of encouragement helps. I just hope she comes to her senses so than later.
Take care of yourself!
Good tutorial! It was so fun hearing your voice but I never expected to hear a British accent. Love it!
My, you have a beautiful voice! Thank you for sharing this! And, yes, it was all very audible and clear ;-) Ann
Depuis le temps que je cherche ton blog anglais... je vais à nouveau pouvoir suivre tes activités!
No sewing plans, but I had to hear your voice. Not being a native English speaker too, I never would have guessed you're French! In my ears it sounded like perfect English! But I have to confess I didn't listen all 10 minutes (no buttons needed here...).
I hope your foot is healed by now.
Anneke
Tres bien fait, Isabelle!
I love covered buttons as well.
You write so well in English, I always assumed it was your langue maternelle... Which is your native tongue? (English, French or other?)
Coucou,
