Meeting Tany

I know lots of you were excited that I was fortunate enough to meet Tany last Wednesday, so here is a small report for you. :)
Trust me, friends, despite all the goodness that transpires through her blog, Tany is even more wonderful in real life!

With Tany's permission I am posting this picture of her...
Take this as a gift to you :)
(my hair is usually considered dark! It looks so light here, set against Tany's beautiful mane)

In the picture, we were having sandwiches on the steps of the Opéra Garnier after shopping for fabric. It was the first sunny day in a long time... it was a perfect day! The weather was too gorgeous to have lunch indoors. I even removed my coat and scarf and pulled up my sleeves (we had been having some close to freezing temps for 2 weeks)!
Some of you may recognize the coat Tany made earlier this year... Let me tell you, it is amazing up close. So haute couture. Tany's hard work and delicate hand-sewn details certainly pay off.

Boy, did we talk. About fabrics, sewing, techniques how we came to sewing, cats, blogs, blogging friends, everything. I think we could easily spend a whole week together and still be chatting just as much.
We went to the Bouchara fabric store, where the selection is getting decidedly better and better every time I visit. Many fabrics there are expensive, but the value is better than in most of the fabric district (the high-quality fabrics are less expensive here). There is also a selection of more reasonably priced fabrics, although I know they would seem expensive for those of you in the US.
After browsing all our heart's content, we both picked one fabric, but chose it at length! Tany also taught me some great stuff about knit interfacing and I got some thanks to her advice.

I got this deep cranberry polyester in the coat fabrics section for the Simplicity 3631 jacket. It feels very soft, like wool.

Tany's coming to Paris was such thrilling news. I kept thinking about it in the weeks before she came, and it helped cheer me up in difficult times.
Now I keep thinking about the time we spent together - in terms of the joy our friendship brings me, but also of the inspiration provided by Tany's skill and talent. I am even more inspired than before by her sewing, now that I got to feel her passion in real life. Sure, I am passionate about sewing, too - but Tany is passionate about sewing exquisitely.

Merci, Tany!! We have to meet again

I am so jealous that you got to meet up with Tany and I am so jealous that Tany got to meet up with you!! You both look so content in that picture - I guess good sewing friends have a way of making a person happy!

Oh how wonderful for both of you! You look like best friends in that photo, and very happy! I, too, am jealous. You poor girls, if either of you visit the states you're going to spend all your time visiting with sewing bloggers :-)

Hello my dear Isabelle !
It seems to me you had a very good shopping day. It make me think that I didn't do a "between girls' day" for an eternity ...
Have a good sunday (even without sun) with your love ...
Big kisses.

My dear Friend Isabelle, meeting you was magical! It brings up a smile into my face every time I think of us, together, chatting like crazy about everything, knowing how little time there was and how much we had to say to each other! Visiting Paris was wonderful and even more after we've met! You are a sweet, kind and wonderful person and meeting you was a great honour! {{{Isabelle}}}

You sound like you had a fantastic time with your friend. You both look so happy and relaxed in the photo.

Even the little glimpse of that coat shows how intricate the detailing is.....in real life it must be very detailed. Kudos to Tany :)

You're both very clever seamstresses (is that the right word for plural seamstress? ) Lol, and me a native speaker too.....

Sounds like a fun day and a good friendship sealed. You two look great and am so glad that you had a wonderful time. Love the color of your polyester fabric. Can't wait to see it made up. Have been following Tany's tutorials and it's hard to believe that she has been sewing for such a short time.
Glad that y'all had a chance to get together.
