I ordered both the Deco Vive Cosmopolitan dress and the Cha-Cha-Cha dress at that time.
Some of you may remember the dismal story of my first try at the Cosmo dress... I am determined to make another one some day, and to be more successful this time.
The halter neck ribbon hasn't been cut to the right length: I was out of white narrow ribbon, but I think a white satin ribbon might look better than the blue organza pictured here.
Here's my review of the pattern:
Pattern Description:
From the HotPatterns website: "Sweetly simple dresses , easy to make in soft or crisp cottons, silks and rayons. /.../ Halter-neck dress has a semi-circular skirt which wraps over at the back, a deep shaped waistband and long self fabric ties. Both dresses pull on and finish just above the knee."
Pattern Sizing: 6-26. I made the 6, but it ended up too big. The HP sizing is different from the big pattern companies. It seems to reflect more the American RTW sizes, I think? (which are themselves very different from the European sizing). I wish those patterns started at a size 4 or 2!
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, very. I particularly loved the super-clear construction drawing, which is very self-explanatory, like those in Japanese sewing books if you're acquainted with them.
Fabric Used:
Lightweight woven cotton, white background printed with blue flowers. A Christmas gift from my Mom :)
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:
Apart from taking in the seams, I redrafted the neckline for a smoother line. This was prompted by twistedangel's review, and she was totally right. Thank you twistedangel!
I also cut the sash ties shorter than they were meant to.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would love to sew it again! I would love to make the other dress from the pattern.
I absolutely recommend it to others, beginners and more advanced seamstresses alike.
Conclusion
This dress is so feminine and sexy. I love the long ties. The wrap-around design accents the waist in a flattering way, and I'm a big sucker for full skirts. All in all, an absolute winner! Both easy and spectacular. My only wish is that it came in smaller sizes as well.

But wait!! The Hot Patterns Love doesn't even stop there!Hot Patterns mistakenly sent me the two patterns again in July. I emailed them about it and asked them whether they wanted me to return it. Jeremy at Hot Patterns sent me a super sweet email, and very kindly told me to simply sell them at a reduced price on my blog... And use the money to celebrate happy times! How sweet is that?
However, I have decided to spread the love further and to give them away. The sewing world online has given me too much for me not to want to give a little something back.
I have decided to send the extra Cosmopolitan Dress pattern to Tany, as part of her giveaway contest prize (Tany, Su, and Ali, your prizes are being put together and I'll ship them ASAP!).
I would like to offer my extra Cha-Cha-Cha pattern (reviewed and pictured above) to one of my sewing readers. If you are interested, please leave a comment mentioning that you would like the pattern, and I will draw a name on Saturday morning (Sept. 1, Central European time). I will cover the shipping costs for you. :) Please specify in your comment if you'd like to be added into the draw :)
I recently purchased a few more Hot Patterns for autumn, taking advantage of their buy 2 get 1 free promotion last month. More on that once they have reached my mailbox - I cannot wait :)
Have a great week, everyone!

Your dress turned out beautifully! I love that pattern too, and I'm going to make the long sleeved version soon. That was so sweet of Jeremy. I love him and Trudy.
Your dress is wonderful! I think those blue ties look great--adds a little contrast. You did an excellent job, and it was such fun reading your review. I'd take part in the giveaway, but I don't think this pattern is small enough for me :o( Happy Day ((HUGS))
Stunning. Wow.
Your dress is lovely - no wonder you have left it on the dressform.
Your dressmaking skills are awesome, Isabelle! How sweet of you to offer up your extra pattern as a giveaway!! I'm sure the recipient will be thrilled.
Wow thats a gorgeous dress! Your fabric is so pretty. I often leave my last creation on the dressform - it makes me feel like I've been busy when in reality I haven't had time to get to the sewing machine! Please put me in the draw - thanks!
I love your Cha-Cha-Cha dress! It's fantastic! I have this pattern, but never found 'the right' fabric to make it in. I better hurry and try mine out, it's almost fall!

Hi Your dress is gorgeous. I would love to be entered in your pattern giveaway.
hee hee. I had to laugh about you leaving it on the dressform because it matched your room. The dress *is* lovely though! I would love to be in your drawing.
There are so many things I want to comment about in your recent wonderful posts Isabelle.
The pictures of your visit to Sweden were lovely with my favorite being the one your face peaking out of the tent. So cute!!!
What a display of wonderful wedding gifts Isabelle!! What an amazing feeling for you and Sebastian that so much love and care went into making these gifts for you. They are all so special and unique - a loving tribute to the two of you and your special day.
Love all the sewing you've been doing. The dresses look pretty and very comfortable. You must have had so much fun making them.
{{{hugs}}}
What a beautiful dress Isabelle! You are right, its so feminine and sexy. I love it. I wish I could wear styles like that (I'd need to lose a lot of weight first lol).
I don't want to be put in the drawer for the pattern as although I can sew quite well, I know this style just would not suit my larger figure and I'd rather it went to someone who it would look lovely on.
Blogger seems to have eaten my comment ...
I was saying that this dress is beautiful and that I remember to have seen it in your bedroom ;)
I would love to be part of your draw :)
*Hugs*
Wow it looks great and that fabric is so pretty. Wow, the people at HP sound really nice. Hmmm, well I'd like to be included in the drawing. I've always wanted to try one of the Hot Patterns out.
Hello Isabelle, your dresses are wonderfull (the black and the blue), but I really prefere this one. I don't write more because my english is not very good !!
Bye.

What a lovely feminine dress - I can imagine how great you look in it. Please add me to the drawing!
Beautiful dress Isabelle! I like the blue organza ribbon
The neckline on your dress is just stunning. I like the contrasting ribbon you picked for the tie.
Love the way your dress turned out, you sew so beautifully.

Hello Isabelle, This is another lovely creation. Well done! Just a pity the weather has not been kind enough to allow you to wear it! If possible I would like to be in the draw!
Best wishes,
Mary Anne
What a gorgeous dress! I know you'll look beautiful in it, just as you always do. Please may I have a chance at the pattern? I'd love to sew it for my daughters (I'm a bit too vintage for it, I think...)
Thanks--
Julie
Great looking dress. What a shame that your weather has not allowed you to wear it. It has been so hot in my neck of the woods in the USA. You would have worn it everyday! You did a great job on this.
It's a gorgeous dress! I like the blue organza tie, too. It's too bad they don't have them in a smaller size. I'm not very good at altering yet. You would have been able to wear in here in Kansas this month. Ronda
Your dresses are lovely Isabelle and you've received some lovely gifts. Congratulations
You are ever so sweet ;-) Ann
Wow Isabelle - that dress is beautiful. I'm not surprised you want to leave it on the dress form. Fingers crossed for a hot Indian summer so you can wear it! :)
Your dress looks stunning! I think it's my favorite version of this dress so far!! Dear friend your are so kind, sweet and generous! {{{Isabelle}}}
Beautiful dress! Please add my name in for the drawing.
The Cha-Cha-Cha dress looks amazing! I never got a chance to compliment your wedding dresses as I've been playing vacation reading catch up but they were just georgeous! Your sewing skills are excellent!
I'd be honored to be included in your drawing, I've never tried a Hot Patterns pattern and will have to go look and see what they offer!
Love your dress and your blog and I would love to be included in your drawing.
-Tammy
