Dear everyone, hello!

Well, I am back from the wonderful, beautiful land of Sweden. Sébastien is still over there for a week-long conference (which is why we happened to go to Sweden in the first place). I came back on Monday evening, but have been too busy since then to update my blog. Yesterday was devoted to laundry (there was a huge pile waiting for me) and other chores. Today has been a long and busy working day! Which is good
We had a great time in Sweden - not a honeymoon really, though. (I must confess I do not care for the ephemeral idea contained in the word anyway. Besides, this trip was certainly special, but so are all our trips! What would be the point in them otherwise.
) Above all, I'm not sure many "honeymoons" would involve hiking an average of 20 kms a day, occasionally carrying a backpack a quarter of your own weight (with all your stuff in it, including a duvet and a tent). At the end of the day, you feel too sweaty and exhausted to be in much of a romantic mood.
But oh, what a fantastic time we had. Seb and I both have a passion for hiking, for discovering new places by foot and at length. That trip totally fit the bill for us. My two favourite days have to be those when we hiked on the Bergslagsleden.
We've hiked in a number of beautiful places, in several countries and on three continents (Seb has hiked in four) - but we had never been so awed as in the forests of Sweden. The wildness is so incredibly, so respectfully preserved. The forest seemed, and sounded, truly enchanted - the zillion mushrooms on our way looked as if they came straight out of fairytale books. It didn't take much imagination to fancy that each of them was house to a tiny pixie - or that such or such gnarled stump was in fact a motionless gnome that would start moving again as soon as we had our backs turned. Seb grew convinced that elves would come and steal me overnight.
We did hear lots of strange noises when night came. The forest animals in Southern Sweden are not dangerous, though. It would have been a different matter if we had gone further North!

Sweden is regulated by the right of public access, which means you may camp everywhere provided you do not damage the environment and are not too close from a house. As you can see in the above picture, small stugas (cabins) can be found here and there in the forest. There isn't enough space to sleep in it, but it provides a shelter to eat and rest if it rains or snows too much. The trail we hiked on (Bergslagsleden) is more used in winter for skying, though, and we hardly met a soul.

We also spent some time in a few towns, of course - but that will have to wait for another article. Now is high time for thank yous.I came home to a mailbox full of cards and gifts - and feel completely bowled over. You know, friends, at times I want to creep into a hole and make myself tiny - this is just too much!! Personal emails and notes of thanks will be coming very soon if they haven't already. I just wanted to say merci, merci beaucoup, to all of you - Doris, Marianne, Souris, Martine, Barbara, Karen, Shashi, Margaret, Anneke, Tracy, Mireille, Katrina, Murielle (I'm sure I am forgetting someone)... to all of you who emailed as well... and I have yet to fetch a mystery package from the post office, too. I'm a bit stunned with it all, to say the truth. I would never have dreamed of such kindness pouring over us. Of course I'll need to find some time and take decent pictures!
Miss Cutie/Ptite Mignonne is back home as well, and she seems to have had a great time at Julie and Thomas'. She actually sulked a fair bit when I came to take her back yesterday, which had never, ever happened before. I think she fell in love with Julie, and probably also enjoyed being photographed by an artist. Ah well. Julie and Thomas will just have to come over and play with her at our place now. Seriously, you did a really kind thing, taking care of her for so long!
~*~
I'll try and write more soon. You've all been very busy while I was up North! So many things to see and read on your blogs. So much beautiful stitching, and sewing!Sending special hugs and thoughts to a couple of dear friends, who are going through pain. I love you.

Welcome back! You have painted a lovely picture of Sweden with your description of the forests etc. Thanks for sharing!
You trip to Sweden looks like it was heaven! Thank you for sharing!
DH and I went to Jamaica for our honeymoon, and as careful as we were, we both still got sunburned! That doesn't make for a romantic mood, either! ;o)
Welcome back! Glad you enjoyed such a lovely holiday - looks like you had great weather as well. I have never been to Sweden but after seeing your photos - I'd love to visit.
Your pictures are fantastic! It sounds like you had a perfectly lovely vacation, with lots of wonderful memories. I'm very glad no mysterious little elves carried you off in the night!
My husband and I are totally convinced that every married couple needs a "honeymoon", even if it is only a night away in a local hotel. But the purpose of a honeymoon is not necessarily locking yourself away from the world and indulging in a lot of sex. No, a honeymoon is a time for the two of you get out of your old routines, to reflect on your new status and to grow more deeply as a couple. You said, "Seb and I both have a passion for hiking, for discovering new places by foot and at length." That sounds like a honeymoon to me. I am glad that you both had a wonderful time.
grosses biiizzz
Welcome back, looks like you had a good time - and warmest congratulations on your marriage.
Tu as raison,la Suède est un pays magique...et la Norvège l'était encore plus avant de devenir une destination "à la mode"!n'hésite pas à retourner en Scandinavie et en Finlande,c'est tellement beau.
Welcome back. It sounds like you both had a lovely trip.
Welcome back!
I'm pleased you enjoyed your trip!!! thanks for this magical tale!
We still don't know where to go for our 'honeymoon' (this word makes us laugh) for various reasons. there's no need to hurry. Loick will have to go back to work one week after the wedding, so I think this will have to wait till the following year. but we don't care!!!!!!!
Sweden seems great! I'd love to go to Norway. Have you been there?
take care.

Welcome back from a very special vacation. Nevertheless it is no typical honeymoon you both enjoyed yourself.
We are also planning to go for a special trip next year since we will have to go back to work one week after our wedding. And this week we will stay with my ( future-)husband´s kids.
But for us also every vacation is kind of honeymoon.
Best wishes,
Katrin
The pictures are wonderfully beautiful! My husband and I hike (well used to - it's sort of hard with 4 kids) it looks like you had a wonderful, enchanted time!
Welcome back-your pics look fantastic-now I want to go!

What a great trip! I love hiking, too and your pictures are just so beautiful! It reminds me very much of the woods here.
Welcome home, dear friend! It was wonderful to see this post and to know you had a marvelous time in Sweden. Sweden is a land of great beauty. DH & I had a wonderful long weekend there a few years ago--such walking & touring we did in only 3 days, that was a grand trip. The natural beauty of Sweden is very special, I'm so glad you got to taste a bit of that place. Honeymoon--it is a strange thing...And I so agree with you, all trips are wonderful. Going to, seeing any place, anything is wonderful whether on is married or not, just married or married long! It's good to see that newlywed status has not gone to your heads ;o LOL! So glad you were able to stop and share all this with us. Enjoy being home again and all the comforts there! ((HUGS))
I loved looking at your photos. It looks a beautiful place. My DH and I like to hike too
Welcome back! Thanks a lot for sharing your wonderful pictures. Sounds like you had a wonderful trip!

Cogratulations on your marriage. It's good to see you back.

The pictures of P'tite Mignonne made me smile! I don't know how Julie managed to give her back!
Yay, Isabelle, you are back! Great pictures and good for the both of you that you had such a great time. I bet it feels good to see Violette back again too ;-) Ann.
Oooh, that sounds like a wonderful holiday! Honeymoons don't have to be all about romance ;) I hope you haven't worn yourself out with all that hiking though LOL!
It sounds like you had a lovely honeymoon and one that was perfect for the two of you. On our honeymoon in Rome we walked everywhere and saw so many things - we were tired!! Glad to have you back!

Welcome home again, and good luck getting settled in/caught up/etc. And thank you so very much for your emails. Big (((hugs!))), dear friend!

Welcome back! Glad you had a lovely holiday Isabelle :)
oh Isabelle those photos are beautiful!! Glad you enjoyed your trip to Sweden :)
Welcome back! Your pictures are wonderful :) I just got back from Sweden myself, but didn't have a chance to wander off of the "beaten path". I wish that I would have had the chance to do that. It sounds (and looks) like you had an awesome time!
Your pics of Sweden are beautiful! So glad you and Seb had a wonderful vacation. It reminds me of my in-law's honeymoon - camping in a tent in the wilds of Idaho, fishing all day, tramping the hills, swatting mosquitos, lol! Even right after my dh was born, they were out camping right away, with the baby in an Indian style papoose board which they hung on a tree while they fished!
I am glad that you both had a lovely time away, much deserved after preparing a wedding. LOL at Seb being concerned that elves were going to take you away through the night. So sweet.
Joanne

Gorgeous pictures, it must have been beautiful (if tiring) hiking in the forest. So glad that you had such a wonderful time.
