Hi everyone. Thank you for the thoughtful and affectionate comments to yesterday's post. You can't imagine the comfort they bring me. Thank you.
Thank you also to all of you who knew and remembered my birthday was today... and sent so many sweet e-cards... Thank you to those of you who sent such beautiful cards through snail mail, too... Those have all really helped me go through this bitter-sweet day. I shall thank each of you privately.
Thank you to those who, although they didn't know I turned 26 today, brightened my day nonetheless with a sweet word.
There was a time last week when I didn't want to touch a needle ever again. But I have come to realize this is not how my grandma wants me. I want to be, to remain as passionate about sewing - and working, serving, and giving in general - as she has been throughout her life.
(I'll try and share a bit more on those thoughts, some other time.)
After leaving it on hold for more than a week, I did manage to finish my birthday dress - Vogue 2902 - yesterday night, just in time for today. I know Grandma would love this dress and all the hand-sewn detail, and the fact the pattern dates back from 1952 - if she could see the dress and if we could discuss it as we used to discuss my projects, every time I visited her. She would probably love the Liberty fabric, although I doubt she has ever handled genuine Liberty lawn herself.
I know she would be proud to see I did meet my goal of finishing it on time to wear it on my birthday. And not making a botched job of it for all that - finishing it with care.
(Thank you, my sweet, caring, beloved Seb, for being so understanding yesterday evening...)
I am sorry the pictures are not so great (and not so cheerful, either). We had planned on taking them on the Canal Saint-Martin, but a storm started suddenly when Seb came home at 7 (it's hailing, now).
I thought they were better than nothing - Seb is leaving to Ottawa for his work tomorrow morning (very early), and will only be back on the 14th, so it was our only chance to take pictures before he left.
I'll try and share more construction details another time, OK? Seb is done packing for his trip and he's now making a sweet little dinner for the two of us. We need to spend some time together before he leaves tomorrow.

I promise to try and write a "real" review soon.

Happy Birthday Isabelle!
Your birthday dress looks fabulous, dear Isabelle! Even though your day has been bittersweet, I am glad that I was able to add something to it, in some small way. Now, if you had allowed us to give you gifties... ;) Have a good night with Seb. *hug*

Isabelle!!! Happy Birthday and what a lovely dress to celebrate in! Your grandmother would absolutely be so proud of you. I know she adores you and would especially love this delicate pattern on you. I've been wondering and worrying about you. You were in my prayers most fervently yesterday as it was our National Day of Prayer here. As always, your friend, Deb
It's a beautiful dress!!! Happy Birthday, Isabelle. Hugs.
It's such a perfect style for you. Color, too! Praying for you, friend.
Happy birthday. And what a pretty birthday dress. Hope you and Seb have a fun time. I think your grandma would be very proud of you.
Happy Birthday Isabelle!
The dress looks just stunning.
Oh my gosh, Isabelle, you are only two weeks younger than my daughter! She turned 26 on April 25th. (I'm a Taurus too!)
You look so lovely and pretty in that dress. I'm glad you aren't going to quit sewing because I got that McCalls pattern for you. I just need to mail it off to you.
Consider it my birthday present to you!
Happy Birthday (I didn't know until I read this post)!! Your dress is so beautiful, a true work of love and caring! I wish I could be next to you and say these words in person... Maybe one day we meet. Have a good weekend, Isabelle!
The dress is beautiful and you really look good in it.
Happy Birthday, Isabelle!!

Happy Birthday! I'm glad you were able to finish your dress, it looks fantastic. Have a wonderful evening before Seb leaves, what a sweety to cook dinner.

I absolutely love the dress Isabelle. You sound a little more at peace today. I hope through everything you've taken a little time for yourself on your birthday. {{{HUGS}}} I'm glad you've decided not to put your needles down forever - your talent should not be wasted.
Your birthday dress is lovely! Happy belated birthday! You and your family will continue to be in my prayers.
Happy birthday Isabelle. I just realized, you are the same age as my oldest daughter. Sweet! Love the dress. It is just beautiful. The fabric is perfect for that style of dress.
My prayers are for your grandmother's peace and calm. I hope that she stays comfortable. I pray for you and your family's strength in this very trying time for you.
Happy Birthday Isabelle.
I love the summer-y look of your new dress - it looks lovely on you.
Your grandmother would have wanted you to keep sewing - and pass the skills down to the next generation too - happy stitching :)
I love your dress, it's very pretty. I'm sure your Grandma would be very proud of you. I hope you had a great birthday.
Dear Isabelle, what a lovely summery dress. It looks very pretty on you and so do you. Your grandma would be proud of you.
Your grandmother would be very proud of you, Isabelle. I'm certain you are exactly everything she's hoped for in a granddaughter, and much more.
(((((hugs)))))
Lots and lots of hugs to you Isabelle. Your dress is lovely and I'm sure your grandmother would be so proud of you.
I have been away from here for too long. Funny, because I think of you so often just throughout my day.
Losing my grandma was one of the hardest things in my whole life. You will be in my prayers.
Your birthday dress is beautiful and I'm so glad you decided to finish, wear and photograph it.
Hugs to you and Seb.
Happy belated birthday Isabelle.
Your dress looks lovely - you have made your grandmother proud.

Happy Birthday Isabelle.
Your dress is lovely.
Hi Isabelle
That's a gorgeous dress! Happy Belated Birthday to you.
I am so sorry to hear about your grandma. Hugs to you and your family.
I was going to email you a copy of the photo we talked about but our main computer has crashed big time so I don't have your email address now. (I'm working on the laptop and unfortunately I never thought to transfer my address book across before it was too late). Anyway, I'm just about to upload the photo onto my blog so you can see it there.
Love Karen xxx
Your dress is pretty. You really do a good job on the clothes you make. I'm sure your grandma is proud of your sewing talent. It's hard to see a grandparent slowly die, I went through it. Happy Belated birthday!
This will not be the happiest birthday... A big huge hug for your birthday, Isabelle.
Your dress turned out real lovely. I think that your gran is probably more than proud she was able to give you the bug and talent for everything that requires a needle and you could not honor her more than going on enchanting everyone with the wonders you can achieve.
Seb must feel awfully worried and sad for not being able to stay with you in these difficult times. Bon courage à tous deux, et à ta famille. Je pense à vous.
Lili
Happy belated Birthday and hugs Isabelle.
Your dress looks wonderful, I'm so pleased for you that you found the courage and will in the circumstances you are in to pick up your needle and finish it for your special day :-) Yes I agree with the other ladies your grandmother would be so proud of you :-))) She has left with you a great legacy... a love of needle crafts!
Happy Birthday Iz!
You and yours are in my prayers.
You look absolutly stunning in that dress. Great job.
Happy Birthday Friend! You look so pretty in your dress. That color/pattern suits you beautifully!
