A Stitching Lesson from the V&A

Hi everyone! :)
Here is finally a small report of the embroidery room at the Victoria & Albert Museum. A picture report merely - those pieces are so wonderful I'm at a loss to praise them, so pictures will have to do.

We first gazed for a long while at this contemporary embroidery:

Machine embroidery by Rebecca Crompton, 1937.

Then admired a great many samplers, mostly German, of which here is a small taste:

(this so reminded me of the Paradigm Lost sampler Carol and Jo are stitching!)

Finally, a truly edifying stitching lesson

(Since they were all showcased behind glass, I had to take pictures aslant, to avoid flash reflection)

Wishing you all a lovely weekend and sending special hugs to a very dear friend.

I hope you'll have a great weekend and also a chance to rest up from how busy you've been.

Wow! I didn't know that was there! Is it a permanent display or just a special one? I must try to see that next trip to London, esp as V&A are our heroes - German husband and English wife!!!!

Thanks for the viola comment. People keep saying that no-one likes viola, but 2 people posted how lovely it was on my blog.

Those must have been so much fun to actually see, and so much history.

Your pictures are brilliant considering the glass, how did you get them so clear? Thanks for showing them and sharing your trip, so glad you enjoyed it :-)

Oh, I missed the V&A when I visited London a few years back, sob! Thanks for giving us a glimpse at its wonders. :)

Connie (The Lacey Thread) and I have fantasies about studying at the Royal School of Needlework someday. Wouldn't that be something?!

Just found out that I've got to go back in May on my own, so will be heading back to the V&A for another look. Thanks for sharing the photos - mine were useless as the camera batteries went flat!

Thank you for the lovely pictures of the V & A. It is absolutely my favorite museum in the world. I never fail to go there when I am in London (about every five years or so). Not only are the needlework rooms spectacular, at least for those of us who also attempt the craft, but so are the costumes. Last time I spent an hour just looking at the glass. And then there is the silver! Thanks for sharing.
