London!

Seb and I just decided to spend the weekend in London! Our upstairs neighbours warned us they'd be giving a huge party on Saturday night, which will last all night. Given how loud they usually are, and since they bothered to warn us for once... we would probably not get a single minute of sleep. I could have gone to my parents' and see Robin, but we both feel we really need a special weekend together. We've been wanting to go to London since last April, but work kept getting in the way... But we can finally afford to leave our work alone for a whole weekend. And, we can afford the trip, too! ;)

We just booked the train+hotel package and I am so excited! Oh, to be speaking and hearing English for a whole weekend!! That's my idea of bliss. Believe it or not, I've never slept in London! That's a bit weird for an English teacher, isn't it?

I am planning to go yarn and fabric shopping (among other things)... Would any of you English friends be willing to share any tips on fabric and wool shops in London? Thank you!! :)

Oh how wonderful for you both - a trip to London, it seems a very long time since I was there. I'm sorry I can't help with the stitching shops and fabric shops it will all have changed since I lived there 25yrs ago, but Liberty always do such wonderful fabrics and I know thats still there.

Oh how wonderful! The absolute best place for fabric in London is Berwick Street, south off Oxford Street. There are loads of stores there selling everything under the sun. It's where you'd go for unusual fabrics too. Try Borovick Fabrics http://www.borovickfabricsltd.co.uk/index.html or Cloth House http://www.clothhouse.com/ Just wander down. It's the edge of the red light district so it has an certain atmosphere but it's perfectly safe!
You might want to go to Liberty's on Regent Street afterwards for tea and a rest :) - hopefully they still have all their fabrics and wool and craft section. And for inspiration visit the V&A http://www.vam.ac.uk/ :)
The only wool shop I know has closed
but if you need any help ping me an email :)

How wonderful you're going away for the weekend to London - it will do you both the world of good :D Also your latest finish is really cute ... I was squinting like mad trying to see what the little charm said, and gave up, then saw your note at the bottom of the piccie saying what it said ... duh, what a blonde! ;)

A trip to London sounds wonderful! Last time I was there I couldn't find anything resembling a LNS, but the V&A more than made up for it. If you have time, go and visit Carlyle's house! It's wonderful, and such a lovely neighbourhood...

also try John Lewis if you go to Liberty's, they have an habedashery department with wool and stitching stuff. It's on oxford street, off oxford circus.

Check out this website, you can see allthe shops of the main streets !

Have fun in London Isabelle. John Lewis was the one they pointed out to me too when I was there, but apparently Nicki and others gave you plenty of advice! Have fun! Ann.

I just saw on CNN that the rain and wind is terrible in that area - even the Eurostar was shut down for a bit - stay safe!!

David just told me today that he was going to London on business for a week and the company would be fine if I wanted to go with him...so of course I said "YES!" And I was just thinking of posting a note on my blog asking for some advice on good stitch shops in London when I saw you had done it for me! I'm looking forward to hearing what you discover while you're there, stitch or literature-related as I was an English teacher as well...before I had kids.

Hope you and Seb have a wonderful time!
