Hi everyone! I hope you all had a lovely weekend.
Here's my progress on Summer into Autumn:
Here's my progress on Summer into Autumn:

I'm sure I could have finished it this weekend - if only I'd managed to pick up a needle! Instead, I decided to work on Saturday (I was inspired
), and we also did a gigantic Spring cleaning and tidying up this weekend. We also visited Seb's parents on Sunday... And the detergents I used to clean up gave me a headache which prevented me from stitching in the evening.
The progress you see here was therefore made yesterday evening. Can't wait to pick it up again this evening!
Seb did an incredibly sweet thing this weekend. He told me he wanted me to keep the Abracadabra mauve fabric which I thought would be blue, because it was in my favourite colour schemes and he was sure I'd use it later anyway. He actually said he'd buy the replacement fabric for me as a (very) early Bday gift!!
So I've been browsing hand-dyed fabric stores again... This time on Seb's dinosaur of a computer (his lab gave him a laptop when he started his PhD), which did however show the Abracadabra in the same hues that I got.
I'm thinking of perhaps buying a fabric from CountryStitch in New Zealand - possibly Eden. Friends, I would love to have your opinion on this! Is Countrystitch a good online store? Do you think the fabric would work well for Celtic Summer? Would you choose linen or lugana? I like the fact that the dye comes out lighter on lugana, but then I've not stitched a whole lot on evenweave - I usually stitch on linen. Many questions I know... but I'd be so grateful for your advice and opinion!

I'm enjoying watching your SintoA grow Isabelle! Waiting to dance with you - hopefully very soon :)
Regarding Countrystitch - I haven't ordered from them since they've changed hands, but I've heard favourable reports from several other people. Evenweave v. linen - Lugana is a lovely fabric to stitch on IMO (and you know what a linen freak I am LOL!) so if you think the fabric colour is better with the evenweave, then go for it. I can't really help you with the suitability of the colour; hopefully someone who actually has a piece might chime in below and tell you whether it's a close match to the website pic or not.
Good luck in your search to find the right fabric and how sweet of Seb to treat you for your birthday :)
After carefully drooling, um, inspecting the colours, I think the Lugana would be best for your project. CS has such fantastic colouring you don't want to loose it with the fabric, so I personally would pick a lighter shade. Plus I love lugana. Heh.
I have never ordered from this company, so I can't advise on that. Good luck!
Hi Isabelle! Great work on Summer into Autumn. You'll be done soon enough, no need to push. :)
I've heard really good things about Countrystitch, but I have never personally ordered anything from them. I couldn't find the exact fabbie color that you referenced, but I generally lean towards softer colors because I'm fairly conservative and want to make sure that I'm not overshadowing the beauty of the design with the background of the fabric. I personally like lugana better than linen because it doesn't pull out of shape so easily. Seb is a real sweetheart to buy the fabric for you. ;) Good man!
Your project is looking great! Sounds like you had a good weekend despite the headache. :D
I love the Eden - really love it on the lugana!!!!! Congrats on the early bday gift! Your Summer into Autumn is looking fantastic!
I love your summer into Autumn, beautifull colors !
You're doing such a beautiful job on SIA. That Seb is a keeper, huh? :) Sounds like you're perfect for one another. I'm sorry your cleaners gave you a headache. I hope it didn't last too long.
I should be stitching. Hmmm...that would make a good stitch saying wouldn't it? lol Goodnight Lovely Isabelle.
Great stitching. Linen or Lugana? Linen tends to be more delicate but there can be advantages in having a heavier fabric that would hide more on the underside. Since it's for Summer maybe the lighter fabric would lend a little to the feel of the season. But I'm sure either will be lovely. Happy Stitching, CJ
ohh..how sweet of Seb :)
Your Summer into Autumn looks great - you will be finished in no time!
How nice of Seb - what a great guy. Looks like you received some great feedback from others regarding your linen vs. lugana question....
Have a great day!
Excellent work Isabelle! keep it up!! :)
*hugs*
I haven't ordered from CountryStitch, but it was recommended to me by an online friend. I emailed the owner a couple of times and she was really great about answering questions and offering suggestions. (I only didn't place the order because I felt I ought to be saving my pennies.)
I can't tell you anything about the customer service of CountryStitchwebsite as I haven't ordered anything from them yet, but I thought I might share my opinion on the fabric you choose. On my monitor the fabric abracadabra looks lila, so I was quite confident that the colours would be realistic. So I went to look for the CountryStitch website and I don't think the Eden fabric will be that good. The colours seem right, but the fabric looks quite dark for a "Summer" lady. If you want her "in the sky" I would choose "frosted lilac" (because celtic spring has lila in her dress, but the fabric has sparkles and I don't know if you want that). If you want the fabric more in the green tones I would go for "Geyser". Personally, if I had to stitch her and choose a fabric from this website, I would go for "Geyser". Have fun stitching her! Ann.
This link from Angelsan's website might help you too in deciding...http://www.stitching.jekdesign.com/FabricChoices.html
Ann.
Thank you Ann... yes I'm using that site all the time! About the Eden, are you talking of the linen or the lugana? The lugana didn't seem that much dark to me... ?
I hope all is good with you! :)
On that website above, the frosted lilac and rose petals also look equally good and each give the pattern a particular tone :-). If you really want blue for your bedroom, I think seaside or glacier (illusions) go well too, but it's a bit dark. Glacier is softer in colours. Oh, and I would change my mind about Geyser...when I match both pattern and fabric, I see that "appelmint" would match the colours better than "geyser". Geyser makes it more vivid, but the colours are not exactly the same, applemint has a softer tone and matches the colours. It all depends on what effect you want. Good luck choosing your fabric.
I just chose eden (patches) on the website I mentioned. I haven't seen that they made a distinction between linen or lugana, but I did read on the CountryStitch website that Lugana is lighter in colours. Have fun choosing the fabric that suits you best. All is very well with me ;-) Thank you for showing all your WIPS. Ann.
Oh (I leave loads of comments today :-)) I just remembered that from most blogs, lugana appears greater to work with than linen, because the holes are more even. On the other hand, linen gives that particularly 'older' look that might be pursued for certain projects. Ann.
summer into Autumn is looking gorgeous Isabelle, I look forward to dancing with you soon
Your Summer into Autumn is turning out lovely, Isabelle. I coulnd't answer your question about linen or lugana. I think you should choose the kind of fabric that you prefer to work on. I'm using a lugana for my Celtic Summer, but I usually prefer linen.
I'm trying to catch up!
Your Seb definitely is a nice guy! With Violette's loving hugs on top, you are spoilt! Which makes me extra happy!
I don't know the shop, but I am a definite fan of lugana fabric... forever!!! It is softer than linen, and if you want your stitches neat, it's the best solution from far. Now, the count is lower so your stitches will be a little larger than on lugana. You should consider this with the pearls and dimensions, although I haven't been disappointed myself as the difference is scarcely visible.
Lots of hugs!
