Hello friends! And thank you, for your ever kind comments. They are making my day!

First, here is a project I started while I was at my parents':
This is L'Ange du Sommeil (the Angel of Sleep) by Angèle et Cie, a French designer whose work I really like; Namuelle had sent me the chart for my birthday (she knew I'd wanted it for a while!). The fabric is a Silkweaver Solo from my Halloween treat bag, and for that reason, I decided to change the colours so they would match the fabric. The nightgown is stitched with GAST in Sugarplum, which was another birthday gift from Carol! The feet are stitched in Anchor variegated 1302; the sleeves and nightcap tassel in Anchor variegated 1349; the star in Anchor 1304.
My sister thought it was looking like an insect at that point

Now for the Internet bits and bobs:
~ I've long hesitated to set up a wishlist for exchanges &c... But I've realized how useful my friends' wishlists were, so I finally got around to it last week. I took the opportunity to set up a minimalist website to gather bits and pieces that don't really fit into a blog.
~ I finally updated my stitching and sewing online albums (sewing 2005; stitching 2005; Christmas sewing 2005; WIPs). This was also a good way to look back on my sewing and stitching accomplishments this year, since this is what everyone seems to be doing at the moment!

~ However, I won't set up a list of stitching/sewing goals for 2006... I keep having to plan out my work - sometimes very far out -, and that's more than enough for me. Stitching and sewing are precisely a way to let the pressure and anxiety go. I realized this year that setting too many goals and therefore putting a lot of pressure on myself (I feel such a failure when I can't fulfil a promise, even to myself!) was one of the main causes of my insomnia problem. Besides, it's always very difficult to know exactly how much time in a week (or a month!) I can devote to stitching - it really varies depending on my teaching obligations - and even more on the progress of my research.
So let's just say, I'll go where my fancy carries me. I certainly want to finish the Petal Fairy and perhaps start another large project next year; I'll have to stitch the final round in the Margaret Sherry Round Robin; I want to stitch in several exchanges, and of course, gifts for friends and family! Other than that, I have lovely projects in my crafty drawer, lovely fabrics to play with as well, and... I'll just see in due time what I want to start!
~*~
Finally, since this is a good time to look back on the year's accomplishments... This brings me to my major accomplishment in 2005: to finally get rid of my insomnia problem.I started suffering from severe insomnia when I was 17. I don't want to go back on that dreadful time and the numerous attempts to solve the problem (the few months before last March being among of the worst); but when we moved in our new flat in March, to live in a much quieter environment (we can't hear the traffic at all from here), I was determined to do anything I could to solve the problem. I think it is now possible to say that I succeeded, since on January 4th, it'll be 10 months since I've last taken something to help me sleep!
I received much help from a book by a French psychiatrist who is one of the main experts in France on the subject. This book has taught me so much, and has made me change my attitude radically. I've learned not to let myself think to much when I'm in bed. I've banned every book or sewing magazine, every activity from my bedside (this was tough at first, as I've been used to read in bed since I was 6!). I'm learning to dwell on the accomplished at least as much as what's left to do. I've learned not to make a big deal if I don't sleep well for one or two nights. I've learned a lot from Violette's serenity and happiness in sleeping! (we adopted Violette at the end of March).
I know that I'll have to be ever careful about this... that there might be a relapse some day... But I have gained so much confidence and happiness in recovering a natural and sound sleep, a child's sleep...
Sorry for the long post... but it felt good to put this into words!!

Isabelle, I am so very pleased for you that you are dealing with your insomnia - I have had the same issue for many years and have, like you, had to learn how to "switch-off" at bedtime and not to take all my concerns and problems of the day to bed with me. Turning things over in one's mind for hours on end is pointless (not that it stopped me from doing it!), but it takes some positive actions to combat the temptation - then having had a good night's rest, the day seems so much brighter. Here's to a Happy, Positive and fun time in 2006 (with restful relaxation at the appropriate times :-) Ali xxx
What a cute new project! And major happy dances for getting rid of your insomnia. I can't imagine how awful that must have been.
Have a happy 2006, and enjoy your stitching!
Hi Isabelle,
I'm happy you have rid off your insomnia problem...I hope it wwill never came back!!
Congratulations for all the gift you have made for your family...they are all wonderful!!!I like very much the scarf, the chicken is lovely.
I agree with you about the list of goal for 2006, stitch must be a relax not an obligation.
Now I wish you an Happy New Year...
hugs

The angel is going to be cute all stitched up, Isabelle. She almost looks like an alien right now, though! lol
Thanks for putting up a wishlist! Looks good!
Aw, your Angel of Sleep is soooo cute! I am glad you were able to use the Sugarplum GAST - they seem to be just perfect for that angel :-)
What an adorable pattern. I love the colors. Great progress so far!!
It's kind of a funny coincidence that you're stitching the Angel of Sleep (who does currently look like the Alien of Sleep LOL) and talking about your battle with insomnia. I had problems with insomnia, sleep walking and nightmares for many years and I really sympathize with your efforts. And rejoice in your success at beating this for nearly a year! Visualization techniques (and the antics of three very busy kids) have helped me over the last several years.
Your wish list is a great idea and very well presented!
Hi Isabelle, I thinks it has been a while since you have shown something in cross stitch (apart from Petal Fairy). But you're quite right: you have loads of work to do and it has to stay a relaxing hobby, no extra pressure.
You made beautiful gifts for your family!
I wish you a great New Year's eve and New Years day and all the best for the year to come.
That's a beutiful new design you've got there!
And I'm so pleased you've beaten the insomnia. It's a terrible thing to not be able to sleep properly.
That's a very nice angel. It looks good already :-)
I'm happy for you that you've made such progress with your sleeping. I suffer from insomnia occasionally but it usually is because of stress and I know that so I can get a hold of it pretty quickly. I also find that not stitching and reading in bed helps. And you're right, it's a beautiful thing to see a cat sleep. They enjoy it so much, it shows on their faces :-D
The gifts you made for your friends and family are awesome. Truly thoughtful and I'm not surprised they loved it :-) I particularly like the scarf in the middle and the quilt wallhanging. The kitty blanket is so cute too :-) In fact I think they're all wonderful :-) I'm glad you had a good christmas. Can't wait to see what you do with the fabrics your mother gave you :-)
Sorry for the long comment. I hope I didn't babble on too much :-)
Happy new year! :-D

Dear Isabelle,
I praise God for your healing from chronic insomnia. I have battled it during pregancy and bouts of depression, but never as long as you have. I have found that praying intently for other people and situations to be wondeful both for me AND them. It redeems the time and usually puts me into a relaxing sleep. Forgiveness was what healed me when the source of insomnia was bitterness (not pregnancy hormones!). I had peace with God and people.
Your outlook for keeping sewing a means of relaxing and pleasure is mature. Why add stress to our hobbies? Silly, huh, but haven't we all done it??? We women can be our own worst critics!
Love you and hope your New Year is filled with agape love and peace.
HI there! I am glad that you found a way to cure your insomnia. I suffer a bit by it too, especially when my work is stressful or I am facing something very difficult. I've found that if I ban all caffeinatted drinks in the evening that helps me too.
I loved all your gifts to your family, they are wonderful gestures of your love for them. I hope that you had a great Christmas and could celebrate it the way you wanted.
Happy New Year, Isabelle, I wish for God's abundant blessings for you and your loved ones in 2006!
Zabelle... Here's wishing you a wonderful year ahead. filled with lots of stash, fun, laughter, health and of course love :) *hugs*

I thank you for inspiring me in 2005. It is beacuse of you that I started sewing again!!! I still have a few techinical things to learn about my machine but I have truly loved sewing up ornaments, pillows and even new kitchen curtains!!!!
Your wonderful sewing creations have inspired me to want to be the best that I can at creating and finishing my cross stitched designs!! Your blog is a great pleasure for me to read everyday!! Thank you and great health, great fortune and great creativity for the New Year!!

Isabelle, it's nice to have comments left on my blog from you, so I came here to visit yours, and it's delightful! It's nice that you enjoy stitching things as simple as Angel of Sleep (so cute and such lovely colors you're using) to the more elegant Mirabilias. I'm the same way. I like just about any kind of design. I'm really enjoying reading your blog.
Big {{{{hugs}}} to you Isabelle. I'm glad that you've found a way to deal with your insomnia and that you're sleeping better. I've had bouts of insomnia and I know how horrible it is not to be able to sleep :(
You've accomplished a lot this year - congratulations! May you have a wonderful 2006 with lots of stitching time :)
Congratulations on having resolved the insomnia problem with the major attitude change. Happy New Year Isabelle. Ann.
I have to admit that until I looked at the picture on your sidebar of the finished angel, she looked like an alien to me. Just picture the cheeks as big pink eyes! ;)
But, more importantly, I wanted to congratulate you on the huge accomplishment of overcoming your insomnia problem. You deserve to sleep well, dear!
All the best to you and Seb in 2006 (and always, of course)!
