Christmas gifts to my family

Hi friends,
I am finally editing the pictures of the gifts I made to my parents and siblings. Unfortunately, I realize that forgot to photograph a couple of them... Ah well.

Here are the scarves I made for each of my siblings:

From left to right: the first scarf is for my older sister (the eldest), in a fancy "eyelash" wool; the second one is for my younger sis, in mohair wool; the last scarf is for my older brother; I cut it from fleece, and embroidered a little snake on the scarf; I also embroidered a fleece hat to match.

I do not know how to hand-knit... But I used a knitting loom to knit the first two scarves. This is totally unknown in France but I was asked to participate in a Canadian (Quebec) loom-knitting group to translate online patterns for them. I finally had to buy one! This is where Ebay is a great ressource to buy stuff from the American continent!

Here is my little sister's kitty blanket, in the only place of the flat where it could lay flat - on the bed:

My sister loved it, so it was WELL worth the work!

For my elder sister, a wallhanging quilt:

Each of the 16 panels is stitched separately before they are all assembled; I then sewed French lace all around (funnily, French lace is called "English lace" in French!), and then added a layer of batting and a lilac lining. I coordinated the colours to her home decor, and she loved it too

I embroidered a pair of boxer shorts for each guy in the family - my brother, my BIL and Seb.
Seb got a kitty one:

("P'tite Mignonne" is what we most often call Violette: "Little Cutie")

And my brother and BIL each got a monkey one:

"This is MINE! I know I can't wear it, but I don't care! Meow!"

I embroidered a fleece sweater for Seb and another one for my BIL, but apparently forgot to photograph my BIL's sweater!
Here's the one for Seb:

It was impossible to do the colours justice in photographing this dark fleece! That's the best I could do... (my BIL's sweater has a Miro-inspired bird on it)

I finally ended up making something for my parents, besides the expresso-capuccino machine we got them. Their gifts pile would have been too scarce otherwise!

For my mother, a Sunbonnet/crinoline lady:

For my father, I stitched two bookmarks whileI was in Lille, but forgot to take pictures!!

I also stitched this little chicken for my Grandma while I was in Lille:

Stitched over one on 28-ct linen

As for me, I was spoiled by my family with wonderful, thoughtful gifts!
Stashwise, my mother spotted a fabric store that was closing out nearby and was having a huge clearance sale, so she bought me a BIG box of fabrics; among them are three pieces of silk - the kind of fabric I would never dare to buy myself! Now I need to find the perfect patterns for those...

You are amazing. My jaws hit my kneecaps every time I see the amount of work you put on in such a short time! The kitty quilt is fantastic. My daughter loves those bright colors. Embroidered boxers--that's creative. I'm so glad your mom spoiled you with fabric. I love getting fabric almost as much as I love getting finished pieces from people (almost, I repeat:)).
What is that embroidered on Seb's fleece sweater?

Beautiful hamnd-made gifts, as always!! The SunBonnet picture you made for you mom reminds me of a quilt my Great Grandmother had on her bed! I loved going to her home just so I could see this quilt. There were 20 embroidered Sun Bonnet ladies and each one wore a different colored dress and hat. It really was a little girls dream to have such a quilt!! Thanks for bringing back such fond memories!!

Hugs

I always seem to say this, but ditto to all the above comments! I am also amazed at the amount of stitching you achieve, and the quality appears to be superb. Your family and friends are very lucky. My favorite is the Crinoline Lady; I have heaps of these designs in my stash of SINS and UFOs, and seeing yours has made me want to drag one of mine out and get working on it!!

Hello Isabelle! What wonderful gifts you have made your loved ones. Everything is so special and so skillfully done. You accomplish far more than I could even dream of doing. I've enjoyed seeing your pictures. Aren't blogs lovely that way? We can share so much of our lives and interests with others. It just makes me smile and smile! I'm glad your imsomnia problems have cleared up for you. That must have been terrible. Once in a while I can't sleep and lay there for an hour or two. I know what you mean about not letting yourself think once trying to rest. Thats tricky though...= ). Well, I'd better get to bed. Warm wishs to you for a Happy New Year!
