A Great Weekend

Well it was a great weekend. We all had the best of times with my father's and sister's birthday celebrations. My Daddy was truly touched with the quilt and wanted to hear all about how it was made.
In the afternoon before the party I dug into my mother's closet and found a beautiful fabric that looked like it was tea-dyed. My mother said I could do whatever I wanted with it, it was so cheap! I also found some apple-green cording around the house, so I decided to make fabric bags to wrap my gifts! This was appreciated too. :)

My sister seems pleased with her little pillow, but especially likes the city bag I had made for her a couple of months ago. She paid me the best compliment ever when she told me it looked like a boutique bag!! I surely didn't think so before, but then when you are making something it's so hard to have a distanced opinion. At least that's how it is for me... Isn't it the same for you?

This weekend was also the time of the yearly big, big fair in the town where my parents live, the Lille braderie: it's basically a huge garage sale... on the scale of the whole city. We enjoyed going there when we were younger, but now it seems we're somewhat blasés...
But, the good thing is that some shops also enter into the fun and have HUGE sales. This is particularly the case for the main crafts shop over there, which is really expensive all year round (you can also see Angelsan's post about this shop!), but carries an incredible blowout sale every year during this particular weekend. Plenty of little - and bigger! - xstitch kits were priced at 0.5 or 1 euro! And these were for 5 euros!! I had long wanted to buy one... I think they are so cute. The dress is of aida fabric and in the kit you've got a booklet with a variety of designs to stitch on it - plus, all the assorted skeins. Their normal price is 20 euros! I bought two and intend to stitch one for each of my sisters for Christmas.

So that's another thing on my to-do list...

Good for you that the presents were highly appreciated. That's always a comfort after so many hours of work, isn't it? It's a sweet thought to give your sisters these cute dolls. Do you know what to stitch on it yet for either of them? Ann.

Thank You Ann! Yes you're right, it is so rewarding to work hard at a gift and know it is appreciated. Makes you want to make more and more doesn't it? ;)

I haven't decided yet which design I'll choose for the doll's dresses... There's so much I plan to do before stitching these!! The dolls came with a whole series of free charts (the flowers on the picture to which my post linked back are just an option). There are also charts for butterflies, little girls, little mice, kitties... Even an alphabet!

Looks like you forgot an important part of the Braderie: the mussels piles competition !
But I suppose you couldn't smell them from your home (hopefully !).

Great stuff about the gifts, are you going to stitch the dolls now, or do you have another project first?

I'm so glad everyone loved your gifts! Yes it does make you want to do more and more when you find such kind appreciation!! Have you ever posted a pic of the bag you made for your sister? Just curious to see it. :) The dolls look adorable, your sisters will soon have their whole places full of your mementos, lucky girls! :D - Kim
